2013 Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG got introduction in April at the New York Auto Show. The new Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG is similar to the Mercedes-Benz M-Class models, ML63 AMG and offers same hand-built, direct-injection, twin-turbo, and 5.5-liter V-8 engine. The seven seater car will be launched in Europe later this year and in US for early 2013. It is equipped with enhanced double-width grille and new LED daytime running lights. The backside of the car also comes with little bit changes. It comes with more aggressive front bumper offering unique daytime running lights, enlarged air intakes, chrome detailing and pumped fenders.
Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG is equipped with 5.5L V8 biturbo petrol engine that delivers 550 bhp power and peak torque of 760 Nm. The model can run 0-100 kmph (0-62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds and goes up to an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph. All-wheel drive is normal because it comes with AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic transmission offering the choices of three specially-tailored driving modes – C (comfort), S (sport) and M (manual). The C Mode stands for Controlled Efficiency, which starts the car in second gear as well as offers engine stop-start feature; S stands for Sport, which trenches the eco-program for faster shifts while M stands for manual setting.
The suspension modes are also able to adjust the characteristics of the speed-sensitive and electromechanical steering system. The car is packed with AMG Ride Control system, which unites Benz’s Airmatic air suspension with special struts, Adaptive Damping System (ADS) and an automatic self-leveling function. It is also offered with automaker’s Active Curve System, features active front and rear Anti-roll bars that shrinks body roll during hard cornering. The ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM offers the extra effects of enhanced handling stability and consequently safety, mainly at higher speeds.
Similar to the most AMG models, GL63 is available with range of visual upgrades. Massive air dam controls the front fascia; while thick chrome bar accents the base of the lower bumper. The GL630 is packed with 5-spoke light-alloy wheels in format 10 x 21, highlighted titanium grey with high-sheen finish and set with tyres in size 295/40 R 21. Interior parts comes with little bit changes. It offers sport seats and flat-bottomed steering wheel, some unique cover around the door and dash and also special trim. It is also equipped with stainless steel pedals, and kick plates with the AMG logo. The steering wheel is an AMG design that features 4 spokes.
It also offers Mercedes’ COMAND line with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, tri-zone automatic climate control, lane keeping and blind spot assist systems, 360-degree camera screening system, a panoramic glass roof and a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system. The front seats are made in perforated leather and gives extra supports for the side bolster, whereas MB-Tex is used on the dashboard, armrests and door trim. Metallic accents wrap the center stack, gas and brake pedals, air vents, center stack, gauges and door handles.
It is available with excellent ergonomics and a generous amount of space. All seven seats are covered with high-quality leather. It is also offered with standard safety features like crosswind stabilization, Attention Assist, Active Parking Assist, and Collision Prevention Assist, which is radar-based system that alerts drivers to evade imminent rear-end collisions. It is also packed with Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, BAS Plus brake assist and Distronic Plus.
AMG styling factors comprise the front apron with its large openings that make sure an effectual air flow for the cooling modules. Exterior parts of the car features AMG elements like new front apron with larger openings, trim inserts completed in matt silver chrome around the air intake, a bottom air intake, and LED daytime running lamps in the side air vents. The price of 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG is not announced yet but expected to be available at the price tag of more than 2012 GL550.
