One of India’s leading business firms, Tata Group has always blazed a trail in technology segment and set benchmarks in its each business. Remember the eMO EV concept, which was debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in the starting of this year as a part of the prestigious Michelin Challenge Design display of Tata Technologies??? Tata, the automaker responsible for the world’s most affordable conventional vehicle, is now working with French company Dassault Systemes to create the full-fledged production model of this concept. Tata eMO Electric Car will be the first vehicle to be conceptualized and designed entirely by any Indian firm.

The company has done a partnership with Dassault Systemes for powering the skills of a global engineering team to meet copious restrictions regarding design & cost and produce the targeted user experience, according to Kevin Fisher, the Vehicle Programs and Development Group President of Tata Technologies. Dassault Systemes 3DExperience platform based on Version 6 technology has been utilized by Tata Technologies for the first feasibility study of the eco-friendly electric vehicle – the eMO.
Tata Technologies President and Global COO, Warren Harris stated that the eMO project is a great indication for the imminent age of Indian automotive business. According to Harris, the global reach of Tata group is its unique potency, and engineering a full vehicle is substantial example of the potential of Tata Technologies, a first for any India-based manufacturer. As it is India-based, Tata Technologies is closely accustomed to developing markets.
This latest Tata eMO (electric MObility) Electric Car is expected to be the most affordable electric alternative with a price tag of around Rs 10 lakh. The credit for the creation of eMO EV concept goes to Tata Technologies’ Vehicle Program and Development (VPD) group, which was formed in 2010 with a vision to offer a fresh viewpoint to the automotive industry that had been combating the worldwide collapse. The eMO is an outcome of a brilliant effort towards innovation and forethought to the future of automobiles.
Tata’s VPD group came up with a goal of developing a stylish, comfy, convenient, fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicle, and this goal gave birth to the eMO, a battery-operated car which is high in style and low on carbon footprint. Generally, an eco-friendly car is envisaged to be ultra-small and dull but the aesthetics of Tata eMO breaks all that notions. This latest eco-friendly car is luxuriously spaced for 4 adults with foldable back seats, which can be folded to create substantial cargo space, and yet it is compact enough to be parked easily into the congested urban spaces.
For the easier entry and exit, the car equips uniquely fitted doors, and the driver controls & interiors are thoughtfully incorporated into the structure to enlarge the inner space. The cost-effectiveness was one of the prime goals of the VPD group, when the eMO Electric Car concept was commissioned. In a segment where hefty prices are advocated to provide eco-friendly green technology, the group decided to restrict the price of eMO to be around Rs. 10 lakh or under $20,000.
Corresponding to this restricted price range, the car is equipped with unconventional body mechanics such as front & rear fascias, a steel safety cage, and exterior doors composed of recycled panels with mold-in color. When it comes to the powertrain, the latest electric car is equipped with a distinctive dual-motor, liquid-cooled, front-wheel-drive system accompanied by 18.4-kilowatt, air-cooled, high-density/energy battery. This powertrain is capable of delivering a peak speed of 65 miles per hour and a vehicle range of 100 miles.
On the whole, Tata eMO Electric Car is the amalgamation of top-class engineering, cost-effectiveness and genuine dedication to environment. Tata Technologies has not revealed anything yet regarding the launch date of this sole indigenously designed car. But this esteemed car will be keenly-awaited in the market, especially as a consequence of soaring fuel prices and an admiration towards the environment.
