On purchasing a new car, it’s necessary to make the right choice that which type of fuel suits your motoring requirements at the best? Besides fuel prices, there are various other factors need to be decided that about which car is the best in terms of mileage, performance, maintenance, resale value, etc. The general life-cycle cost (purchase price + running cost + maintenance) of your car is based on how much, on average, you drive daily and for how long you think to preserve your car. Nowadays, diesel cars are very economic and identical to their petrol counterparts; however if you wish to be a good racer then top speed of petrol car is superior compared to the diesel car. Overall, both petrol and diesel cars have some positive as well as negative factors, so check out the differences carefully then choose whichever is suitable for you in terms of price and features.
List of things to keep in mind while buying Petrol or Diesel car in India
Cost of the car and Fuel cost
Diesel cars are minimum Rs 1 lakh more costly than its petrol variants and further if you go for any top end model, diesel cars are more costly by Rs 3-4 lakh on an average. When coming to the fuel prices, its vice-a-versa. Currently price of petrol is Rs. 74.00 approx. and diesel is Rs.53.00 approx., so there is difference of around Rs.20. The reason behind this huge difference is that diesel is subsidized fuel; however there is possibility that the subsidy might not be offered longer in the future, and price of diesel could be reach up to the price of the petrol. Of course, only time could tell you how long this will take, but it’s a good to have this detail at the back of the head.
The big part in purchasing the car is its maintenance. The maintenance cost of a diesel variant is slightly high compared to the petrol car. Here, main role is played by the cost of spares of engine, body parts, gear box, its availability, etc. If well-serviced petrol car maintenance costs you around Rs 2,000 – Rs 3,000 every 6 months, a diesel car will simply make a hole in your pocket by Rs 1,000 or even more. Mainly when the car is getting old, the diesel engine maintenance cost would be high than a petrol car. Continue reading
