Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 are the most awaited smartphones of the year. Every day some or the other rumors are popping up about their release dates and specifications. Due to the rumors of high tech specs, people are expecting a lot from these upcoming phones.

However, the manufacturers are keeping mum about the official launch of the handsets. It is believed that Apple will launch the iPhone 5 at the Worldwide Developers Conference to be held in June and Samsung will launch Galaxy S3 in May. Let’s hope that these rumors are true so we can take out both iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 from the world of rumors as soon as possible.

Design
Galaxy S3: It is expected that Samsung will use a ceramic body for Galaxy S3 instead of a plastic body like the rest of its Galaxy S relatives. Its measurements and dimensions are a bit of mystery till now. However, it will be somewhat thinner than its predecessor Galaxy S2 which is about 8.55 mm. There is a hint on the edges being round of the chasis. The ceramic casing will be one of the impressive high-end features to be included in Galaxy S3.
iPhone 5: It is believed that iPhone 5 will have a curved glass display. The screen will be running from edge to edge like that of a Mac Air Book. In terms of quality and design, the iPhone has always had the edge over the Galaxy phones and all are expecting that in this case too iPhone 5 will overtake the Galaxy S3. iPhone 5 will use much more expensive plastics for its body when compared to Galaxy’s material. As per the recent rumor, iPhone is expected to come with an aluminum rear panel reinforced by rubberized bezel or glossy plastic.
Processor
Galaxy S3: As per recent rumors, Galaxy S3 will use the company’s very own Exynos 4412 quad-core processor making it the most powerful smartphone ever conceived by Samsung. Moreover, it is rumored to have 2GB of RAM which sounds truly impressive. If this rumor is true then the combination of quad core processor and 2 GB of RAM will surely make Galaxy S3 an extremely powerful device.
iPhone 5: It will be equipped with the next-generation A6 processor. This means the iPhone 5 will have an amazing 1GHz speed over four CPU cores. iPhone 5 is also expected to house 1GB of RAM and iPhone 5 will be the first iPhone to have 1GB of RAM. Most likely the smartphone will be LTE enabled. With A6 processor, iPhone will be very powerful with awesome graphical capabilities and good power management.
Operating System
Galaxy S3: It is rumored to receive the latest Ice Cream Sandwich Operating System. The latest rumors suggest that Galaxy S3 might feature a unique dual-OS system, which will enable the users to flip between two different versions of Android OS, one will be Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with a TouchWiz overlay and the other being Vanilla ICS.
iPhone 5: The iPhone 5 will run on new iOS 6 Operating System. The iOS 6 is expected to have some notable additions and enhancements like inclusion of iMaps and Apple’s own mapping and navigation system. If this rumor comes out to be true then the iPhone 5 will make use of a mapping system, which will not depend on Google Maps. Apple is planning to develop high resolution 3D maps for its mapping and navigation system.
Memory
Galaxy S3: Along with 1GB of RAM, it will have two storage options – 16GB and 32GB. The phone will be equipped with a built-in micro SD card slot that can provide an expandable memory to the maximum limit of 32GB. Another rumor states that Samsung might install a 16GB SD card, with which you will get at least 32GB of storage space when you buy a Galaxy S3.
iPhone 5: It will be available in three versions like iPhone 4S – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. However, as per the rumors iPhone will not include an expandable memory card slot to increase the storage capacity. To overtake Galaxy S3, Apple must include the expandable memory facility in iPhone 5 as today’s generation does not get satisfied with just 64GB.
Display
Galaxy S3: It is rumored to get a massive 4.6 inch screen with resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. However, it is very difficult to get high pixel density on a large screen. Hence it will have a pixel density of 319 ppi (pixels per square inch) only. Many reports also indicate that Samsung might bring the phone with a 3D screen. If rumors are true then with 4.6 inch screen Galaxy S3 would be just 0.3 inch larger than the Galaxy S2.
iPhone 5: It is believed that the iPhone 5 will have a better screen than the retina display screens used in the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4. It will have a sharper and bigger 4.6-inch screen. Most probably the iPhone 5 will have a display with an amazing pixel density of 350 ppi. The screen will be an IGZO screen or an OLED screen.
Camera
Galaxy S3: As per recent rumors, Galaxy S3 will have a 12 megapixel camera with 4000 x 3000 pixels of resolution. The camera will come with some interesting features like LED flash, autofocus, touch focus, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, and image stabilization features. It is also believed that Galaxy S3 will sport a secondary camera of 2MP.
iPhone 5: iPhone 5 is highly rumored to feature a 3D camera. It will have either an 8 megapixel camera or a 10 megapixel camera with facility of taking pictures in the panorama mode. Moreover, it will have a front-facing camera of 2MP to support video chatting.
Battery Life
Galaxy S3: It is believed to be equipped with an all day battery with which the phone will remain charged for a whole day. This will be a boon for medium to heavy users of phone. No doubt this would be a major improvement from Samsung, as its predecessor Galaxy S2 does not have a very impressive battery life.
iPhone 5: It will have a better battery life than the iPhone 4S, which gives up to 8 hours of talk time on 3G and up to 14 hours on 2G with Li-Po 1420 mAh battery. It is believed that iPhone 5 will be powered with a 2250mAh battery.
