At present, Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS are the two foremost players in the mobile operating systems arena. These dynamics are likely to be changed in near future as Microsoft’s Windows OS is doing pretty well these days. Windows Phone 8 OS, codenamed ‘Apollo’, is the latest arrival of Microsoft’s Windows OS and it is highly anticipated to bolster presence of Microsoft in the smartphone arena. Taiwan manufacturer, Samsung, is going to throw its hat into the basket of Windows Phone 8 OS. Samsung has confirmed that it will introduce its first ‘Apollo’ based smartphone in October this year.

According to recent speculations, Samsung is going to introduce 3 new Windows phones later this year. It is also speculated that 2 of these smartphones will run on Windows Phone 8 platform. However, Samsung stated that it won’t release any new Windows Phone 7.5 ‘Mango’ device until the officially unveiling of next generation OS from Microsoft. In the confirmation of this news, Samsung Taiwan stated that Windows Phone 7.5 was not suited to the high-end handsets as Apollo would be. Though, company refused to reveal more details regarding the upcoming Windows Phone 8 devices.
Presently, Samsung is trading Windows Phone 7.5 ‘Mango’ OS running smartphone ‘Omnia W GT-i8350’ in India at a price of Rs. 15,200. And now, Taiwan manufacturer is planning to introduce Windows Phone 8 ‘Apollo’ running handsets at competitive prices in a bid to contend with Google’s Android OS.
As far as upcoming Windows Phone devices are concerned, Samsung will have to contend with Nokia and HTC. The News about Samsung’s plans for launching of Apollo smartphones came at a time when Nokia is making utmost efforts to drive Windows Phone-based Lumia smartphones. The Finnish company has already unveiled some Windows Phone handsets like Lumia 710, 800 & the latest Lumia 900, and, it is going to introduce some more Windows Phones in near future. HTC is another manufacturer who is planning to unveil Windows Phone Apollo device this year.
