The Japanese Company Sony has planned to unveil several Android smartphones along with some carrier-bounded variants by the end of 2012, according to a report leaked in January. Sony’s agenda for 2012 includes names such as Pepper, Xperia S, Nypon, Kumquat, Hayabusa, Tapioca and others. Most of these smartphones are anticipated to arrive in Q2/Q3 2012, but some of them have already been launched and unveiled on the market. Some new info came out about Sony’s agenda for 2012. Images and specs of yet unannounced smartphone from Sony 2012 agenda, the ST21i Tapioca, have been surfaced recently.

Sony ST21i Tapioca is one of the low-end Android devices from this Japanese Company. Being a low-end smartphone, Sony ST21i is expected to come in the market with an outstanding budget-friendly price tag. This budget smartphone is said to be good in terms of the specifications. It will be running on Google’s Android Ice Cream Sandwich v4.0.3 operating system, which will enable the users to access above 1/2 million apps and games through Google Play store.
The smartphone will be powered by a single-core Snapdragon Qualcomm MSM7227 processor clocked at 800 MHz complemented with Adreno 200 graphics processing unit and 512MB RAM. It comes featured with a decent 3.2” capacitive LCD touchscreen display having a HVGA resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. Furthermore, the smartphone is said to pack a 1460 mAh Li-Ion battery and feature a 3 MP rear camera capable of VGA video recording. Right now, the Sony ST21i is codenamed Tapioca, but it is likely to be launched using a different name.
When it comes to form factor, Sony ST21i seems to be equipped with a bulky design. Physically, it is somewhat similar to Sony’s previously-announced Xperia Sola and will feature three capacitive buttons underneath the screen. However, it is not clear yet whether ST21i will be capable of using the “floating touch” interface attributed on the Sola.
There is no word on pricing and availability of this smartphone at this point, but speculation says that Sony ST21i might be launched in the market as early as July for around €150 ($199).
