The Korean manufacturer, Samsung, dipped its toe into the market of Portable Media Players (PMPs) with its Android based media players, Galaxy Players. But, the earlier Galaxy Players were not much accepted by people, partly due to their high prices and bulky designs. Now, the Korean giant is going to beef up its Galaxy Player lineup with more compact and affordable models. Samsung has recently launched a latest addition of its Android media player lineup named as Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 YP-GI1 in the Korea. This latest Galaxy Player was first announced at Mobile World Congress in February 2012.

This latest Galaxy Player sports a display of 4.2” as suggested by the name, and the type of display is WVGA IPS TFT capacitive touchscreen. The display is capable of offering a WVGA resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, as well, it has a Multi-touch feature and 222 ppi Pixel density. It carries a gyroscope sensor so the consumer is enabled to control the device only by moving it, and thus offering a truly spontaneous gaming. However, it lacks an ambient light sensor therefore the device cannot maintain automatic screen brightness adjustment.
This Galaxy series media player is running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread Operating System. Thickness wise, it measures only 8.99mm. The device weighs just 118g and it is available in a milky white hue body. This new portable media player features a 2 MP rear-facing primary camera with a 640 x 480 pixels resolution. There is also a VGA front-facing secondary camera with front stereo speakers for video calling of 0.3 megapixels. When it comes to connectivity, this PMP is featured with Bluetooth v 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and USB 2.0. Additionally, it supports a microSD card slot that can expand the storage capacity up to 32GB. It comes pre-loaded with a lot of e-learning content and games like FIFA 2012 and NFS (Hot Pursuit games). The device packs a 1500mAh battery which is capable of delivering long lasting battery backup.
The device sports stereo speakers with SoundAlive audio enhancing technology that can provide a superb sound quality through front stereo speaker or headphones. Some other value-added features of the Galaxy Player 4.2 include AllShare and Kakao Talk messaging service, Samsung Apps such as Social Hub (Readers Hub, Music Hub, Game Hub), Samsung Hub, etc. The Galaxy Player 4.2 YP-GI1 will hit the Korean market with a price tag of 269,000 Won for 8GB model and of 299,000 won for 16GB model.
