1stFone : All you need to know about £55 phone for 4 year old kids!

OwnFone, a UK-based company, has officially launched a mobile phone for children aged 4 to 9 years. The handset, called the 1stFone, is claimed to be the world’s simplest mobile phone. It’s only function is to make and receive calls, which means you cannot send text messages or access the internet with this device. The makers of 1stFone believe that its limited functionality will protect young children from the hazards of cyber-bullying, sexting, or stumbling across inappropriate material on the internet. Moreover, the device has a cute and compact design, making it quite easy for small hands to use. It’s also super light weight (40 grams), so that children can easily carry or wear them even when they’re playing outside or walking to school.

Like regular mobile phones, 1stFone doesn’t have a screen. Instead, it displays a list consisting of the names of up to twelve people with corresponding physical buttons. The child can make a call on any of these pre-assigned numbers by simply pressing the respective person’s name button. In this way, children can have numbers of their Father, Mother, Grandma, Grandpa, as well as their home phone number at their fingertips. These phone numbers are assigned to each key at the time of purchase. Besides twelve names, parents can also add 999 (the UK’s number for emergency services) as one of the contacts. However, remember that one must press this button thrice to activate the call. Continue reading
