Apple has unveiled its latest version of Operating System called iOS 6 during the World Wide Developers Conference held in San Francisco. The updated OS from Apple will come with over 200 innovative and attractive features for Apple users. The beta software and the software development kit are already available for iOS Developer Program members at the site of developer.apple.com. Moreover, it is expected that the iOS 6 operating system will be made available as a free software update for iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, new iPad, and iPod touch (fourth generation) users by the end of September 2012.
Apple claims that the iOS 6 will add a number of novel functionalities to Siri. With iOS 6, Siri will support more languages like English, German, French, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese. Plus, it will work in 15 countries. Siri will be able to do lot of things with your voice commands like providing sports scores and stats, make restaurant reservations through OpenTable, gives latest movie reviews and showtimes, and even launch applications without tapping. Siri will do your task of posting Facebook updates and tweets. It has also been said that Apple is working with all major car manufacturers to incorporate Siri into their voice control systems. However, Siri will be available only on iPad 3 and iPhone 4S and Internet access is must for use of Siri.
Facebook Integration is another impressive feature of the iOS 6 that guarantees better integration with the world’s largest social networking site, Facebook. With this feature, you need to sign in to Facebook only once after which you can post to Facebook from a wide range of apps. You will be able to share a photo directly from camera, post your location directly from Maps, and many such things. Moreover, the Facebook events will be integrated with your phone calendar that will remind you of birthdays or get together directly through your phone. Above all, your Facebook friends’ profile information will be integrated into your contacts. So, whenever they will change their contact number or email address, you will be updated automatically.
Apple will add its own iOS maps in iOS 6. The maps will feature turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic conditions, vector graphics, Yelp integration and 3D flyovers. Interactive maps will be designed using vector-based graphics rather than bitmap images. The most impressive Map feature will be the photo-realistic 3D flyovers that will display 3D models of all famous areas across the world. The Maps will also feature Siri integration to guide you to your desired destination through the fastest possible route. This new app will provide information for more than hundred million businesses across the world. With high quality 3D views, this app will surely become the most powerful mapping service ever.
The new feature called Passbook will collect and organize items like boarding passes, retail coupons, movie tickets, loyalty cards, and much more all in one place. The app will also inform you about when your coupons will expire or the balance left on a coffee bar card. Moreover, the passes will pop up on your screen at the exact place and time, for example when you walk into a store to cash in your gift cards, your gift coupon will be displayed on the screen on reaching the store. Passbook will also inform you about gate changes and flight delays. Another feature called Do Not Disturb will mute all your incoming calls and other alerts and the screen will not light up too. Users will also have power to customize this feature with which one can allow the repeated calls to come through so that you will not miss any important call.
The ‘Shared Photo Streams’ feature will enable the users to share selected photos with selected people very easily. Just choose the photo from the Photos app and click on the share button. Plus, you will be able to view the photo streams on bigger screen on Apple TV. With the help of FaceTime feature, users will be able to make and receive FaceTime calls at any time, any place. Besides all of these wonderful features, iOS will add some helpful features for people with hearing, vision, learning, and mobility problems. The iOS will support VoiceOver screen reader for blind people. Plus, iOS 6 will be integrated with features such as AssistiveTouch and zoom for people who suffer from low-vision problem.
