Finally, the much-awaited Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 has gone official. Samsung has actually surprised everyone by unveiling the next-gen Galaxy Note 8.0 device just before the Mobile World Congress 2013. Samsung has also confirmed that it will be made available globally at some point during the second quarter of 2013. Sadly, Samsung has not revealed any info about the exact release date and pricing of the handset yet. The device will come in three different variants – Wi-Fi only, 3G + Wi-Fi, and 3G + LTE + Wi-Fi. Plus, the buyers will also have the option to choose from a 16GB or 32GB version of each. One noteworthy thing about the Note 8.0 tablet is that the global version of the device will provide phone capabilities (i.e. they support cellular networks), whereas the US version will be Wi-Fi only.
One of the most impressive features of the Galaxy Note 8.0 device is its massive high-quality display. This new tablet sports an 8-inch TFT display with 1280 x 800 pixels of resolution and 189 ppi of pixel density. Plus, the device runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Operating System, which also features Samsung’s latest TouchWiz User Interface. Under the hood, the tablet incorporates a quad-core 1.6 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 based mobile processor coupled with 2 GB RAM. Moreover, both 16 GB and 32 GB models, supports a memory card slot through which the users can expand the memory capacity up to 64 GB. Samsung has included an excellent 5 MP camera (with LED flash capability) at the back, so that users can click high-quality images and record HD videos. Plus, there is a front-facing 1.3 MP camera to support video chatting.
The Note 8.0 handset impressively offers a number of innovative features that are not found on other Galaxy devices. A feature called “Reading Mode” is one among them. With this feature, every time you launch an e-reader application, the device would automatically adjust the contrast of the display to help reduce the eye strain, thus providing an enhanced reading experience that is very similar to an e-ink display. Plus, the feature equally works with Samsung’s Readers Hub and other third-party applications such as the Amazon Kindle app for Android. The device is also pre-installed with the company’s latest “Awesome Note” application – useful for taking down notes, creating to-do lists, and even composing diary entries.
Another interesting application included in the tablet is the “Smart Remote” app, which enables the users to use the tablet as a remote control. Now, just like the rest of the Galaxy Note series, the Note 8.0 tablet also come equipped with an S Pen stylus. As soon as you pull out the S-Pen, the device will automatically sense the stylus and then activate all of the S-Pen supporting menus and apps to make browsing easier. Fundamentally, you can use the stylus pen to touch the capacitive buttons. But now, thanks to Wacom technology, the S-Pen for Note 8.0 is claimed to be able to control even the physical menu/back buttons found on the device. It means, there is no need to switch between stylus and fingers when using a tablet.
Furthermore, a novel interesting feature called “Air View” allows users to hover the stylus over Samsung applications to get previews of emails, photos or videos, that too without actually launching/opening the apps. Besides these, the device includes a number of S-Pen optimized features including Popup Note, Page Notes, Popup Video, Formula Match, Shape Match and Idea Sketch, all of which contributes for improved productivity of S-Pen.
Samsung has also incorporated its trademark features like Dual View multi-window mode, Pop up Play, Page Buddy, Smart Stay, Samsung ChatOn, AllShareCast, etc. in its latest Galaxy Note device. Moreover, the Note 8.0 users will get access to Samsung Hub that includes Music Hub, Video Hub, Game Hub, Reader Hub and Learning Hub. Above all, the device will come packed with a powerful 4,600mAh Li-ion battery.
With such an impressive set of specs and features, the all new Galaxy Note 8.0 device will prove to be a really tough competitor for already popular devices in the tablet market. Right now, the 7-inch tablet segment is being dominated by mainly two devices – Apple’s iPad mini and Google’s Nexus 7.
